Member Code of Conduct

Report a breach of the Code of Conduct

The council has a Code of Conduct that sets out the rules governing the behaviour of its members.

Member Code of Conduct

All elected councillors and the Executive Mayor are covered by the Code of Conduct and are expected to follow it. See a copy of the pdf icon Code of Conduct [213kb], which has been adopted by the council.

The Code of Conduct covers areas of individual behaviour such as councillors abusing their position or misusing the council's resources.

It is based on the Principles of Public Life, which are:

  1. Selflessness
  2. Integrity
  3. Objectivity
  4. Accountability
  5. Openness
  6. Honesty
  7. Leadership
  8. Personal judgment
  9. Respect for others
  10. Duty to uphold the law
  11. Stewardship

Report a breach of the Code of Conduct

If you feel that a member has breached our Code of Conduct you will need to refer your complaint in writing to:

The Monitoring Officer
Mansfield District Council
Civic Centre
Chesterfield Road South
NG19 7BH

Your complaint must relate to the Code of Conduct and the behaviour of a Mansfield district councillor. It must state the nature of the alleged breach and provide sufficient information to allow us to decide whether the complaint should be formally investigated as a potential breach of the code.

Complaints about council staff, matters not covered by the Code of Conduct, the way the council has or has not done something; as well complaints about decisions made by the council and services it provides, cannot be dealt with under this process.
