Cemetery repairs completed

Repairs to damaged gates, railings, a stone wall and several memorials at Warsop Cemetery have now been completed.

The damage was caused when a stolen JCB crashed into the cemetery in July last year. The cost of the repairs was approximately £21,500, which was covered by an insurance claim.

Cllr Mick Barton, Portfolio Holder for Public Protection, said: "Everything possible was done to complete the repairs as quickly as possible but unfortunately there were delays settling the insurance claim because the driver was uninsured. Submitting various quotes to the insurers was also a lengthy process.

"The stone used in the repairs had to match with the existing wall, which meant we were limited in the materials we could use and sourcing the correct stone took longer than expected.

"Our staff have worked hard to ensure that the repair work is of the highest standard and in keeping with the rest of the cemetery wall."

There are plans, subject to funding, to replace the old railings along the front boundary of the cemetery to match the section that has recently been replaced.
