Notts Police and Crime Commissioner Notice of Election Published

The notice of election for a Nottinghamshire Police and Crime Commissioner has been published across the eight local authorities in Nottinghamshire.

Nominations are now open and nomination papers can be obtained from the Nottinghamshire Police Area Returning Officer (PARO) at the Civic Centre, Pavilion Road, West Bridgford, Nottingham. Candidates will need 100 signatures from eligible voters and there is a returnable deposit of £5,000 if candidates receive the required number of votes.  There is still time for candidates to stand and they have until the deadline for receipt of candidate nominations which is 12 noon on 19 October 2012.  Nominations should be returned to the PARO.

Allen Graham, PARO, said: "This is the first real significant step in the election process to establish who will qualify to be the candidates for the Police and Crime Commissioner election on Thursday 15 November 2012.  Once this nomination period closes on the 19 October, it will be clearer to Nottinghamshire citizens who are the candidates.  This will hopefully also ensure that local awareness is raised as to why it is important to use their vote to elect a Police & Crime Commissioner for the first time in Nottinghamshire."

Following close of nominations, a list of candidates will be published on council websites across Nottinghamshire on 23 October.
