Winter offer on brown bins

Mansfield District Council is offering a special winter discount on its garden waste collection service.

Households who haven't already signed up to the service can join now for just £12.50, meaning they'll have their brown bin collected during the autumn and winter months.

The special offer starts today (Monday 1 October) and sees the usual price of £25 slashed by half for the service over the next six months. Collections take place fortnightly during the months of October, November and March, and monthly during December, January and February.

There are a number of ways to join the service:

  • Call our dedicated garden waste team on 01623 463 463 and pay by credit or debit card.
  • Call into the Civic Centre and pay at cashiers by credit or debit card or cash.
  • Apply online at www.mansfield.gov.uk/brownbin We will then send you an invoice detailing how you can pay for the service.
  • If you have a problem in paying by any of these methods please call us on 01623 463 463 and we will try to accommodate your needs.

Once a payment has been made, a sticker for your bin will be issued, along with details of scheduled collection dates.

Subscribed customers will be contacted early next year to ask if they wish to continue with the year-round service.

Cllr Philip Shields, Portfolio Holder for the Environment, said: "More and more customers are joining the service which provides an environmentally-friendly way of disposing of garden waste. During the autumn months, the brown bin provides an easy solution to clearing up the fallen leaves and garden waste. For the hardened gardeners, it also allows them to continue work on their gardens during the winter months and easily dispose of their garden waste.

"People tell us many reasons why they've joined, from those who don't want to make trips to the tip due to the time it takes or the mess in their car to others who simply enjoy having the bin alongside them whilst they do their gardening. It can then be wheeled to the kerbside for collecting - easy!'

An alternative way to get rid of garden waste is home composting. This is an effective way of transforming your kitchen and garden waste into a rich compost. For a low cost compost bin please call 08445 714 444 or order online at www.getcomposting.com

You can also get rid of your garden waste at household recycling centres, which are located at Kestral Road, off Hermitage Lane, Mansfield or at Oakfield Lane, Warsop
