Wheelchair users wanting to attend the Olympic and Paralympic athletes' homecoming event on 11 September are being asked to get in touch with Mansfield District Council to reserve their space on a viewing platform.

People from across the District and surrounding areas are encouraged to come along and celebrate the achievements of Mansfield's own London 2012 double bronze medallist Rebecca Adlington, along with Charlotte Henshaw, Sam Hynd and Oliver Hynd who are currently competing in the London 2012 Paralympic Games.

The event will be held in Mansfield's Market Place from around 6pm, where the athletes will take to the stage, while a big screen will show each of the athletes competing in the London Games.

A raised platform area for wheelchair users will be available in the Market Place. Places for wheelchair users must be booked in advance and are available on a first come first served basis. To book a place call 01623 463 376.

There will be Olympic-themed activities in the town centre to keep the crowds entertained and 2,000 flags will be given out.

Local sports teams and clubs will be invited to attend a sports village on Westgate from 4pm to 5.30pm, where people who have been motivated to get in to sport can find out how they can get involved.
