Support Mansfield's Golden Girl

Rebecca Adlington Swimming and Fitness Centre is holding a special event on Sunday 29 July to mark Mansfield's Golden Girl's first race for Olympic glory at the London 2012 Games.

Rebecca is set to compete in the Women's 400m Freestyle event in the official Olympic pool at the Aquatics Centre in London, with the heats taking place at 11.33am and the final commencing at 8.15pm. The top eight swimmers from the morning heat will compete in the final.

The leisure centre, which was named after the double Beijing gold medallist in 2010, is holding a Swim Like Rebecca Day. The main pool will be open between 9 and 1pm and the smaller teaching pool will be open between 9 and 2pm, for people to swim in the pool where Rebecca first learnt her skills at the age of four. The event is open to all and free to attend.

There will also be a competition to win a free one month swimming pass. Visitors to the leisure centre on the day will need to guess the winning time of the Women's 400m freestyle final event and the closest guess will win the pass.

Then at Oak Tree Leisure Centre, the Women's 400m Freestyle Olympic final race will be shown on a big screen. The race begins at 8.15pm and people are encouraged to come along to watch the race, with hopefully Rebecca competing. People are encouraged to take their seats from 8pm and the event is open to all and free to attend.

Tony Egginton Executive Mayor, said: "We are immensely proud of Rebecca and she has our full support and best wishes ahead the London 2012 Games. I am sure that she will all do herself, Mansfield and the country proud. I'd encourage fellow Mansfield people to join us in supporting Rebecca and take part in the activities taking place at Rebecca Adlington Swimming Centre and Oak Tree Leisure Centre on 29 July."

Brian Taylor, Chairman of the Mansfield District Leisure Trust, said: "We are very pleased to be promoting this event and encourage members of the community to come along and participate in what should be an exciting day in an excellent facility. I am sure like me, people in Great Britain will be willing Rebecca on for another Olympic medal."

Rebecca is also set to compete in the Women's 800m Freestyle heat on Thursday 2 August, with the final taking place on Friday 3 August. She also forms part of the GB squad for the 4x200m freestyle relay, which takes place Wednesday 1 August.
