Blooming wonderful!

Green-fingered children from two primary schools helped to plant an Olympic-themed flower bed at Titchfield Park, Mansfield, on Friday (22 June).

Pupils from King Edward's Primary and Sutton Road Primary schools submitted designs for the flowerbed as part of a competition late last year.

Out of the 80 designs that were submitted, Parks Development Officer Andy Chambers and the friends group judged the winner to be Kristopher Sneirs from King Edward's Primary. He received a book token donated by the friends group.

The design, based on an Olympic theme, was planted in the town centre park by a group of about 20 children with help from Mansfield District Council's Parks staff and the friends group on Friday.

The annual competition to design a summer flowerbed is part of the Mansfield in Bloom campaign. The flowerbed will be seen by judges from East Midlands in Bloom when they tour the District on 4 July.

Councillor Philip Shields said: "The new flowerbed is a fantastic feature and I'm sure it will impress the East Midlands in Bloom judges when they visit next month. The Council is extremely grateful for the ongoing support of the two schools and the Maun Conservation group for their work."
