Inspiring Mansfield - family fun for all

The first of the Inspiring Mansfield semi-finals kicks off today (18 June), with the first event taking place at Meden School and Technology College.

The Inspiring Mansfield community event started in primary schools in February and has been awarded the Inspire 2012 Mark.

The competition has seen children from across the District competing in a Tri-Athletics Challenge to see who can run the fastest and jump and throw the furthest. The overall winners from each primary school will go through to the semi-final held at their local secondary school. Details for the semi-finals are as follows:

Venue: Meden School and Technology College, Burns Lane, Warsop, NG20 0QN

Date: 18 June

Time: 4pm to 6pm

Activities include: Tri-Athletics Challenge, Basketball (for 11-15 year olds), Football (for 11-15 year olds), Climbing Wall, BMX Bikes, Penalty Shoot Out, Inflatable Football, the Inspiring Mansfield Torch and meet local sports clubs.

Venue: Queen Elizabeth's Academy, 150 Chesterfield Road South, Mansfield, NG19 7AP

Date: 19 June

Time: 4pm to 7pm

Activities include: Tri-Athletics Challenge, Bowls (at Mansfield Bowls Club), Cricket Bowl Out, Tennis (at Mansfield Tennis Club), Climbing Wall, BMX Bikes, Penalty Shoot Out, Inflatable Football, Mansfield School's Year 7 Cricket Sixes Final, the Inspiring Mansfield Torch and meet local sports clubs.

Venue: Samworth Church Academy, Sherwood Hall Road, Mansfield, NG18 2DY

Date: 20 June

Time: 4pm to 7pm

Activities include: Tri-Athletics Challenge, Netball High 5, Hockey, Climbing Wall, BMX Bikes, Penalty Shoot Out, Inflatable Football, the Inspiring Mansfield Torch and meet local sports clubs.

Venue: All Saints' Catholic School, Broomhill Lane, Mansfield, NG19 6BW

Date: 21 June

Time: 4pm to 7pm

Activities include: Tri-Athletics Challenge, Cheerleading, Parkour, Football Competition, Rounders Competition, Handball, Boccia, Climbing Wall, BMX Bikes, Penalty Shoot Out, Inflatable Football, the Inspiring Mansfield Torch and meet local sports clubs.

Venue: Manor Sport and Recreation Centre, Kingsley Avenue, Mansfield Woodhouse NG19 8JY

Date: 22 June

Time: 4pm to 7pm

Activities include: Tri-Athletics Challenge, Zumba, Archery, Climbing Wall, Body Zorbs, Aerobics, T'ai Chi, Karate, Trampolining, BMX Bikes, Penalty Shoot Out, Inflatable Football, Manor Minis (activities for under 5s), Manor Nifty 50's (activities for over 50s) , the Inspiring Mansfield Torch and meet local sports clubs.

Venue: The Brunts School, Park Avenue, The Park, Mansfield, NG18 2AT

Date: 25 June

Time: 4pm to 5.30pm

Activities include: Tri-Athletics Challenge, Rounders Competition, Climbing Wall, BMX Bikes, Penalty Shoot Out, Inflatable Football, the Inspiring Mansfield Torch and meet local sports clubs

Venue: Garibaldi Sports Field and Rubber Crumb, Garibaldi Road, Forest Town, Mansfield, NG19 0JX

Date: 26 June

Time: 3.15pm to 7pm

Activities include: Tri-Athletics Challenge, Wacky Sports Challenge, Climbing Wall, BMX Bikes, Penalty Shoot Out, Inflatable Football, the Inspiring Mansfield Torch and meet local sports clubs

Winners from each event will then compete for gold, silver and bronze at the grand finale on 27 June at Berry Hill Park, the day before the Olympic torch relay comes to Mansfield.

The finale will also showcase local sports clubs with details of how to join, for those who have been inspired to get into sport by the summer games. There will also be a parade, which will include children representing each of the schools within the District.

Inspiring Mansfield torches will be given to every school so that every child has the opportunity to hold a torch and feel part of this historic event.

Inspiring Mansfield has been organised by Mansfield District Council, the Mansfield Area Strategic Partnership, Nottinghamshire County Council, Vision West Notts, Sport Nottinghamshire and all schools within the District.
